In the wake of Bobby Weir's passing, we felt a deep responsibility to offer a positive change to the world, mirroring the spirit of community and philanthropy that Weir championed throughout his life.

On Saturday at the Fox Theater in Oakland, we announced a $10,000 donation to the Rex Foundation in honor of Bobby Weir. The contribution was presented to The Rex Foundation Executive Director Cameron Sears as we aim to transform the collective grief and gratitude of the music community into a force for tangible good.

“Bobby changed our lives, he made the world a better place, and was a believer in community and positive social impacts. He was a founder of the Rex Foundation in 1983 and a lifetime board member.” said Rob Koritz, Dark Star Orchestra drummer. “We want to honor Bobby's legacy by continuing our support for The Rex Foundation. We are working with Rex on some special events in the near future. For now, with the support from all of you and proceeds from tonight's show, we would like to present this $10,000 donation to Cameron Sears, Executive Director of The Rex Foundation.”

Our donation on Saturday is intended to support the ongoing work of the Rex Foundation to ensure its mission of granting vital funds - over $10 million providing over 1400 grants to different organizations all over the world - to allow these community organizations continue to flourish. We encourage others to make donations to Rex Foundation to continue the support they need. Notably, right after our check presenting ceremony, Rex Foundation immediately received a matching $10,000 donation from an anonymous source!
