15 Years of Dark Star Orchestra

Posted on: November 11, 2012

The entire Dark Star Orchestra organization wishes to recognize the exemplary commitment to ‘the music’ – and celebrate 15 years of Dark Star Orchestra. On November 11, 1997, this long strange trip began in Chicago with a dedicated and focused group of musicians that continued to evolve to the place we are today. Now having performed over 2100 shows, the band is as tight and as focused as ever, to continue to share the joy that the music of the Grateful Dead brought each and every one of us. We all thank you for enjoying the ride with us and for a decade and a half of support! And to answer the question of where we are and where we’re going – we started here (the recording of DSO’s first performance 11/11/97) to where we are going (the recording of DSO with Phil Lesh on bass).

Phil Sits In With Us At The Philmore

Posted on: October 14, 2012

As our six guys and girl continue a rip roarin’ West Coast tour, the highlight of the tour took place the second of two nights at San Francisco’s legendary Fillmore, where Phil Lesh joined DSO for the entire first set on Saturday (10/13). The set kicked off with a smokin’ “Jack Straw,” “Here Comes Sunshine” and “Feel Like A Stranger” before setting off for the stratosphere with jamming worthy of the finest of second sets. From the opening notes of “Dark Star” to the set closing “Morning Dew”>”Playing In The Band (Reprise)” the band was on fire as Phil dropped his signature bombs all over the stage. Thanks Phil!
